When Monica Silva, the pregnant woman who disappeared nearly six months ago in Mourtos, had her last ultrasound, she wasn’t sure who the baby’s father was. “Monica doubted who the father of the child was. Said it could be Fernando Valente [detido em novembro pelo homicídio da grávida, cujo corpo ainda não foi encontrado] or perhaps a businessman from Anadia,” said the owner of the premises she rented to Monica and her sister Sara Silva for the sisters to operate as a bar in Casia, Aveiro.
The conversation took place a few days before the disappearance, on October 3, of Monica Silva. “Monica didn’t have a car, so I picked her up in Mourtoza, drove her to Aveiro and then we returned to Mourtoza. We became friends, and I’m very sorry that this happened,” said Monica’s former owner.
Fernando Valente is under house arrest on charges of qualified murder, concealment and desecration of a corpse, and aggravated abortion. The group posted support for the businessman on social media. But they complain of threats from people close to Monica Silva’s family.
