Former Brazilian presidential aide-de-camp Lt. Col. Mauro Cid, whose accusations against Jair Bolsonaro put the former president in a difficult situation, now accuses the federal police of forcing him to make these accusations. Sid’s complaint appears in audio recordings published by the press late on Thursday, March 21, where he also attacks Federal Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur in cases against the former head of state.
“They already had a story ready. They didn’t want to know the truth, they wanted me to confirm their story, you know?” the military man said at one point in the conversation with an unidentified interlocutor.
During the conversation, the lieutenant colonel, who had a distinguished career in the army, said that he was still under pressure from Federal Police inspectors, reminding him that for the crimes of which he is accused as an alleged accomplice of Jair Bolsonaro, he could face harsher sentences deadlines more than 30 years in prison. The police added that the lieutenant would only escape punishment if he provided information and evidence that would allow him to target Bolsonaro. In another audio clip, Sid also attacks the Supreme Court, especially Judge Alexander de Moraes, accusing them of breaking laws and doing whatever they want without restrictions.
“The law ended a long time ago. They are the law, they are the law, Alexandre de Moraes is the law. He arrests when he wants and how he wants. With the prosecutor’s office, without the prosecutor’s office, with the prosecution, without the prosecution,” Mauro Cid revealed in the recording, repeating that there is a version ready to reach Bolsonaro, and people only need to confirm it.
The release of the audio recordings could have serious consequences for the investigation processes into alleged crimes committed by Jair Bolsonaro inside and outside the Brazilian presidency with the complicity of allies and advisers, leading to disastrous consequences for the lieutenant colonel.
Cid, imprisoned for six months last year, was released by Alexandre de Moraes only after he brought charges against Jair Bolsonaro and helped police find evidence. If the agreement is revoked, the officer may have to go back to prison after authorities accuse him of coercion.
