Taxpayers who were eligible for IRS Jovem relief in 2022 but forgot to express that intent on last year’s IRS return may have the advantage of replacing it before filing this year’s return.
The warning about this situation comes from the President of the Order of Certified Public Accountants (OCC) Paula Franco, who in statements to Luse noted that “young people who have not identified this situation [opção pelo IRS Jovem] in 2022, and that 2022 will be the year when they start receiving benefits, the Tax Authority was not very friendly about this and stated that it is not accepting consideration now [o benefício] in 2023.”
Faced with this situation, he suggests that people “replace the declaration [do IRS] 2022″ and this “also forces the situation a little”, and as a last resort they can go to court, because, according to him, the courts recognize young people as right, even if the first year of benefits has already ended.
