Labor costs are rising in Portugal

According to data published this Wednesday by Eurostat, average hourly labor costs in Portugal rose from 16.1 euros in 2022 to 17 euros in 2023, the lowest in the EU. In the European Union they rose to 31.8 euros, and in the eurozone – to 35.6 euros.

Among Member States, average hourly labor costs in 2023 showed wide variations, with the lowest rates recorded in Bulgaria (€9.3), Romania (€11.0) and Hungary (€12.8). On the other hand, according to the statistics office, the highest values ​​are recorded in Luxembourg (53.9 euros), Denmark (48.1 euros) and Belgium (47.1 euros). Meanwhile, an indicator of economic sentiment rose 0.7 points in the European Union (EU) and 0.8 points in the Eurozone in March compared with February, the European Union’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs said on Wednesday. European Commission.

In the 27 member states as a whole, economic sentiment now stands at 96.2 points, and among eurozone countries it reached 96.3 points, still below the long-term average of 100.
