The Court of Coimbra begins trial on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. on a 33-year-old man who is suspected of attempting to kill a man in January 2019 at the Avenue Club disco, located in the city center.
The defendant, already convicted of sexual harassment, robbery and kidnapping, is charged with the crime of qualified murder in the form of attempted murder, one of coercion and the other of possession of a prohibited weapon.
The case dates back to January 27, 2019 at the Avenue Club, a nightclub that has since closed and where a security guard was shot dead in 2017.
According to the indictment, which Lusa had access to, the defendant, who turned out to be drunk, managed to enter a discotheque with a firearm, from which he had already fired into the air, near the establishment.
Inside, at about 06:50, the accused tried to provoke a conflict with a group of men who were at the disco, with a friend of the suspect and a guard trying to restrain him.
The defendant would challenge the man to a one-on-one meeting outside the disco, which he, after initially declining the challenge, eventually agreed to.
Immediately, the suspect reached into the bag he was carrying on his shoulder and took out a firearm, from which he allegedly fired at the victim when they were in the access area to the top stairs of the disco.
According to the prosecutor’s office (MP), the defendant could not hit the victim only because he was drunk, and also because at the time of the shot he was grabbed by friends, whose projectile hit the jamb of one of the entrance doors of the warehouse at the address: disco.
A colleague of the offended managed to take away the firearm from the accused and hand it over to the guard, who later handed it over to a friend of the suspect.
At the insistence of the defendant, this friend returned the weapon to him.
The defendant then decided to go outside the Avenue Club in search of the man who had originally taken the gun from him.
Once he found the man, he asked him to kneel down while pointing a firearm at his head.
According to the MP, a friend of the accused “repeatedly” told him that he was not the person who took the gun from him, and as a result, the accused left the scene.
The girlfriend of the main suspect is also accused in the process, because brass knuckles were found in her house.
The prosecutor’s office demands to condemn the defendant as a recidivist.
