The Judicial Police (PJ) have arrested in the Algarve a man suspected of belonging to a “highly organized” international cocaine trafficking group, subject to a pending arrest warrant issued by the Brazilian justice system, as announced this Thursday.
The 32-year-old man was located and detained in the Algarve by the police’s criminal information department “following an investigation and operational investigation that took place over several days,” police said in a statement.
The detainee, as the police officer explains, was part of an international cocaine trafficking network and was responsible for all the logistics associated with preparing the “courier” journey of cocaine from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) to Europe.
For the crimes committed, according to police, the man could be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The judicial body competent to decide on his extradition, present at the Court of Appeal of Évora in Alentejo, ordered the preventive detention of the suspect until the completion of the extradition process, the note said.
