Gaza’s largest hospital destroyed after Israeli raid

Israeli troops withdrew from Al-Shifa Hospital this Monday after a two-week invasion, leaving behind a scene of horror: medical buildings were set on fire and gutted by gunfire, and bodies were scattered among the rubble. “Al Shifa Hospital no longer exists,” a witness told Reuters through tears.

In the first images, buildings are completely destroyed, others are burned and show signs of explosions. Corpses wrapped in sheets were pulled from the rubble by volunteers, including at least two handcuffed men who were reportedly executed at point-blank range. The courtyards and parking lots of the complex, where hundreds of civilians had set up tents and other temporary shelters, were completely gutted by excavators, apparently searching for the bodies of hostages buried there.

For two weeks, the hospital was the scene of fierce fighting, which did not affect the main buildings of the complex, including wards and operating rooms. Israel has blamed Hamas and Islamic Jihad, saying they used the hospital as a base, and says it killed more than 200 terrorists and detained more than 900 suspects in the operation, and confiscated large quantities of weapons, ammunition and documents. . Hamas says more than 400 people, including doctors, were killed during the invasion.

Israel attacks Iranian consulate in Syria
This Monday, the Iranian consulate in Syria was hit by several rockets in an apparent Israeli air attack, leading to a dangerous escalation that threatens to spread the conflict throughout the Middle East. The attack killed at least eight people, including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and responsible for the group’s operations in Syria and Lebanon.

Israel declined to comment on the attack, which the Syrian Defense Ministry said was carried out by Israeli fighter jets flying in from the Golan Heights. The Iranian consulate building adjacent to the embassy was completely destroyed. Iran’s ambassador to Syria has vowed that the Tehran regime’s response will be “very tough”, raising fears of a worrying escalation of the situation. Since the start of the Gaza war, Israel has attacked dozens of Iranian targets in Syria and Lebanon, but this is the first direct attack on an Iranian diplomatic mission.
