On Tuesday, the Liberal Initiative (IL) asked the Azores government about the number of licenses and approvals for TVDE (personal transport of passengers in unmarked vehicles using an electronic platform), arguing that their number in the archipelago is unknown.
We are talking about regional legislation adopted in January 2022, which establishes the Legal regime for the activities of individual and paid transport of passengers in non-characteristic vehicles using an electronic platform in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (TVDERAA).
The only party to vote against was IL, which considered that the legislation “imposes protectionist restrictions” on the commissioning of TVDE platforms in the Azores.
The requests for clarification were sought by IL Açores sole MP Nuno Barata in a request submitted to the region’s Legislative Assembly.
Nuno Barata justifies this by saying that two years after the entry into force of the regional law, “it is not known whether TVDE electronic platforms exist in the region, duly approved or licensed.”
In addition, “the number of license requests and licenses issued by the Regional Directorate of Land Transport as part of the activities of a TVDE operator in the region is unknown” and indicates that there is also no information on the number of TVDE drivers holding a regional certificate.
IL states that the data currently being requested from the Azores Executive (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) “could even contribute to the presentation of a legislative proposal that would simplify procedures and remove bureaucratic and protectionist burdens on the access of young people or other interested parties” . in launching the TVDE platforms product in the region.”
