Seven World Central Kitchen workers, Australian, British and Polish citizens, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the heart of the Gaza Strip this Monday.
The US-based non-governmental organization World Central Kitchen was created by renowned chef José Andrés, who has already received two Michelin stars, and his wife Patricia. It was created in 2010 after the massive earthquake in Haiti to provide emergency food assistance to survivors.
But World Central Kitchen has expanded, and this year it also began providing food and support to survivors of other disasters, as well as refugees and people affected by war.
In accordance with ReutersWorld Central Kitchen has served tens of millions of meals in Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022.
In March, she participated in the first aid delivery to Gaza via the sea corridor from Cyprus. A second shipment of sea aid, containing 332 tons of food, was due to arrive in Gaza earlier this week.
Founder Andrés is a Spanish-American chef and cookbook author. His restaurant José Andrés Minibar in Washington, DC, USA, has two Michelin stars. In 2015, President Barack Obama awarded him the National Humanities Medal.
