Today, prosecutors asked for former Sporting Braga CEO Joao Gomes to be sentenced to three years in prison, suspended after paying a sum to a social institution.
The last discussion and hearing took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Braga court in the case in which João Gomes is accused of trying to extort the SAD from Sporting de Braga, represented by the president of Minho António. Salvador.
The case began in February 2018 when the club initiated disciplinary proceedings against the then CEO with a view to sacking him, which came to fruition a few weeks later.
Sporting de Braga then reported that João Gomes tried to coerce the club “by threat of revealing unfounded facts in an attempt to extort from the club or SAD” 250 thousand euros, a Mercedes-Benz car worth 60 thousand euros and unemployment benefits. was provided upon termination of employment, all within a maximum period of 24 hours.
After interviewing witnesses and according to information from the hearings to which Lusa had access, the Office of the Prosecutor (MP) emphasized “the credibility of the testimony of President Antonio Salvador, as well as, in particular, the witnesses listed by the SC.” Braga SAD”, pointing out “contradictions and inaccuracies in the defense presented and the thesis of the defendant João Gomes.”
In the end, the deputy demanded that the defendant be sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with a suspended payment of 2,500 euros to the said social security institution.
The verdict is scheduled to be read on April 11.
