On Wednesday, an inmate at Vale de Judeus prison attacked a prison service lawyer to whom he had just given a statement. According to unofficial reports, the man tried to choke the victim from behind (rear strangulation). An official source from the General Directorate of Reintegration and Prison Service said that “a serious attempt at aggression was not completely ended as a result of the quick intervention of a prison guard who was present.”
The lawyer suffered bruises and was observed “first in the prison clinical service and then in the SNS hospital, after which she was discharged.”
The prisoner is placed in solitary confinement and is subject to disciplinary proceedings and transfer to the prosecutor’s office.
