Florencia Guinhasu, an Argentine soccer player from Mendoza, was found dead after being beaten and strangled by her ex-husband, who later committed suicide in the player’s apartment.
Neighbors realized what had happened when they read on a sign in one of the windows of the house “Call 112, children alone.” The country’s press reports that the message was written by the player’s former teammate Ignacio Agustin Notto before his suicide.
The children, two boys aged seven and five, were playing PlayStation in the living room while their parents argued in another room where the tragedy later occurred. The press also reported that the couple’s eldest son knocked on the door where his father and mother were, receiving no answer.
Police broke down the bedroom door and found the player on the floor in a pool of blood. An autopsy revealed that Ginyasu died of asphyxiation and strangulation.
Five months ago, the football player filed a complaint against her ex-husband with a request to impose a restraining order on him, which would later be issued.
Mendoza issued a statement calling attention to the problems of domestic violence in the country: “We deeply regret the murder of Florencia Guinhazu, which was a feminicide. Her husband, Ignacio Notto, beat her to death and then committed suicide. Despite the fact that she was legally married, they were separated, she had already denounced him several times, and he was arrested and then released in November 2023. Many details of this case are not yet known and we are awaiting additional information. What do we know? Just women’s football in mourning, another woman has been murdered at the hands of her ex-partner. Stop killing us!”
