The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was criticized this Thursday by a group of students at the Escola Secundária de Camões school in Lisbon, where he gave a lecture on April 25, 1974. Listening to the protests, Marcelo asked that the youth be heard. Three students seized the moment to blame him for failures, in particular in the fight against climate change and protecting young transgender people.
“I ask for applause to those who spoke. During the dictatorship they would have been arrested and banned from performing. This is the difference between democracy and dictatorship,” Marcelo said. The President also defended the role of women in society and criticized the “nostalgic nostalgia” under the pretext of the book “Identity and Family” presented by Pedro Passos Coelho.
