Four Portuguese men arrested in Gijon in northern Spain in July 2021 on suspicion of raping two young Spanish women have been sentenced by the neighboring country’s public prosecutor’s office (PP).
The defendants, all from the Braga area and awaiting trial at large, are accused of three crimes of sexual assault involving penetration of penises, prescribed and punishable by the criminal code of the neighboring country.
According to the Spanish press, the charge provides for a more severe punishment (10 years in prison) for one of the Portuguese. According to the indictment, the man began by “sexually assaulting one of the victims and then the other.” He was helped by another Portuguese, for whom they are asking for a year and three months in prison. “He facilitated the action and must therefore be held liable as an accomplice,” the ruling states.
Please remember that the facts relate to the early hours of July 24, 2021. The two victims met the two Portuguese accused outside a bar and agreed to go to the Portuguese nationals’ apartment.
Two more Portuguese joined the group. Once in the apartment, the Spanish MP adds, “the two young women made it clear that they would only agree to have sex with one of the men.” However, the pronunciation guarantees that four Portuguese men forced sex on two women. So, for one of the suspects they are asking for 10 years in prison, for two – one year and three months, and for the other – five years in prison.
The two Portuguese men were held at the Asturias Penitentiary Center from July 26 to September 10, 2021, after which they were released on parole. Since then, they have been periodically taken to the Gijón police.
The trial date for the four Portuguese men, who were about 30 years old at the time, has not yet been set.
