Cape Verdean Prime Minister visits Greece to attend Ocean Potential Conference

The Prime Minister of Cape Verde begins a three-day visit to Greece this Monday, where he will attend a conference on the potential of the oceans and present the country’s blue economy vision.

The ninth Our Ocean conference will run until Wednesday in Greece and will focus on six areas: promoting marine protected areas, developing sustainable fisheries, promoting a sustainable blue economy (i.e. focusing on marine resources), and climate action. crisis, support for maritime safety and combating marine pollution.

Cape Verde will present its plans, “one of the main vectors of economic development of the country,” as well as its National Maritime Strategy, the government said this Monday in a statement.

“We will also have the opportunity to present the reforms, measures and investments implemented in the country, as well as those that are under implementation, such as the approval of the Blue Economy Political Charter and the creation of a special maritime economic zone in Sao Vicente,” he added.

The visit will also serve to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations with Greece.

“Relations between Cape Verde and Greece date back to the 1980s and have been strengthened since 2022 through alternating bilateral consultations between the two countries with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest,” the government also said .
