President Chegi announced this Monday that he will propose in Parliament an amendment to the government’s proposed IRS law to increase the cut from 200 million euros to one billion euros.
“When this IRS proposal reaches Parliament, we will turn it into an effective proposal that will provide almost 1 billion euros in relief to taxpayers,” said Andre Ventura.
The Chegi leader spoke to reporters while visiting the Sagalexpo exhibition dedicated to the export of Portuguese food products in Lisbon.
Andre Ventura said Chega “will seek dialogue with the PSD and PS, which can form a majority, in order to achieve much greater relief than what the government of Luis Montenegro is counting on.”
“We were told that we would receive tax breaks of about 1.5 billion euros, and now it turns out to be 200 million,” he said, arguing that there are “conditions for these 200 to turn into 1 billion euros” even “in the first queue”. legislative year.”
President Chegi said that “this increase must come now precisely because economic and financial conditions exist like never before” to provide families with “very significant tax relief,” noting that “the tax burden is at historic levels.”
“I think it’s important, even from a public safety standpoint, to guarantee certain situations and then fight for certain bills. But use that financial cushion to solve some problems,” he said.
Ventura considered that “this reduction that the government is proposing is also a quibble” and stated that “PS already had a much more significant reduction than this and that is not why the Portuguese did the right thing.”
The Chegi president said that he had not yet spoken with the PS and SDP, and noted that the party “maintains an open dialogue with the leadership of the SDP bench.”
Andre Ventura also said that Chega would support the request to hold hearings of the Minister of Finance and the Secretary of State for Financial Affairs in Parliament.
