In Brazil, a woman was filmed taking her dead uncle in a wheelchair to a bank to get a loan.

On Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a woman took her dead uncle in a wheelchair to the bank and tried to take out a loan worth 17 thousand reais (3,024 euros). Erika de Souza Vieira was later detained by civilian police, CNN Brasil reported.

Employees who suspected the situation filmed what was happening.

Erica will simulate a conversation with a man by asking an older man to sign a paper. “If you don’t sign, there’s no way I can sign for you,” he said.

Because of their suspicions, the employees said that the man looked unhealthy, to which the woman replied that “he is like that.”

According to authorities cited by CNN Brasil, the man had already been dead “for some time” when he arrived at the bank.

“She tried to pretend that he took out an already issued loan. However, the people at the bank thought that he was sick and not feeling well. A doctor arrived on the scene and found him dead and deceased. Apparently he had been dead for several hours. Or, in other words, he had already entered the bank dead,” said the person in charge of the case.

The body of the elderly man was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute to investigate the circumstances of his death.

Erika de Souza Vieira had already been charged with a crime under the Brazilian Penal Code of disrespect for a corpse. The woman could be sentenced to 13 years in prison.
