The Portuguese Professional Football League this Sunday “strongly” condemned the incidents in the final part of the game between Desportivo de Chaves and Estoril Praia, including the pitch invasion, calling on the authorities to be “ruthless” towards the offenders.
“The Portuguese League strongly condemns the incidents that occurred this Sunday during the game between Grupo Desportivo de Chaves and Estoril Praia and calls on fans to behave responsibly, in line with the spectacle that a football game should always be,” the organization said in its defence.
During stoppage time, Flavian fans burst onto the field, one of whom ridiculed goalkeeper Marcelo Carne, who allegedly provoked them throughout the second half.
The Canarinhos players immediately came to the aid of their goalkeeper: Pedro Alvaro crossed the threshold and kicked one of the attackers hard. The match was stopped for approximately 20 minutes and the number of players was reduced to nine after Marcelo Carne and Pedro Alvaro were sent off.
“The Portuguese League also calls on the competent authorities to be ruthless towards those who, due to unacceptable attitudes, disrupted the normal course of the meeting in question,” the organization adds.
The Flavienses took the lead in the 32nd minute through Joao Correia, but the Estorilistas turned the score thanks to goals from Basso (58) and Fabricio (71).
The equalizer for the Tras-os-Montes team would be scored by Morim with a score of 90+20, when the number of guests had already been reduced to nine and with an adapted goalkeeper.
Estoril Praia added its third game without a win and is 14th with 30 points, while Chaves are 17th and penultimate with 23, six points behind Estrela da Amador, the first team to be “safe”.
