This Sunday, the President of the Republic mourned the death of the 53-year-old journalist Pedro Cruz, considering that he was a model and “elevated the class” throughout his professional life.
In an official note, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza “regrets the death of Pedro Cruz, a friend and renowned journalist who raised his class so much throughout his professional life, and expresses his most sincere condolences to his family at this difficult time.”
“The President of the Republic will not be able to attend tomorrow’s funeral, he will be represented by the President of the Municipal Council of Póvoa de Varzim,” the note from the Belém Palace also states.
Pedro Cruz was born in Povoa de Varzim and began his career at the age of 21 in local radio, but rose to prominence while working at SIC, where he worked for over two decades and held the positions of Porto News Editorial Coordinator and Deputy Director of Information. .
Political and international areas were the ones he followed most closely, having been present in various situations of conflict and international tension, namely Kosovo, Syria, Albania, Haiti, Lebanon and, most recently, Ukraine, where he was posted in the first few weeks of the Russian invasion.
The funeral of Pedro Cruz will take place this Sunday, from 23:00, in Aveled (Vila do Conde), with the funeral location, according to the family, having been changed from the Main Church to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Povoa from Varzim, from where he will go to Monday at 16:00.
