Paulo Raimundo says it “doesn’t occur to him” that the commission of inquiry into the ANA will fail

The PKP general secretary said on Tuesday it “didn’t occur to him” that the party’s proposal to set up a commission of inquiry into the ANA privatization would be rejected, admitting he had made changes to ensure its approval.

At a press conference in Parliament, on the day of discussion of the PCP proposal, Paulo Raimundo emphasized that the Court of Auditors report on the privatization of ANA, published in January, “points to a forecast that the state has suffered losses of at least 20 billion euros and even indicates signs corruption.”

“Therefore, given these facts and this evidence, we see no reason, and it does not even occur to me, that our proposal should not be approved for the purpose of finding out, understanding what happened, and determining economic, but also criminal liability. If possible,” he emphasized.

The communist leader stressed that Parliament recently decided to approve a commission of inquiry into the 500 thousand euro compensation – hinting at a commission of inquiry for TAP in 2023 – emphasizing that in the event of a sale of ANA, “there is a 40 times greater likelihood of fraud and escape” .

“I can’t believe that, faced with this situation, there is no consensus to move forward with this commission of inquiry. This is the aspect that we are focused on, we really want to see this commission of inquiry move forward,” he stressed. . , allowing “to change this or that context, at this or that period” if required by the other parties to approve the proposal.

According to Paulo Raimundo, all parties are interested in the approval of the PCP proposal, including PSD and CDS, which, when the sale of ANA to Vinci was completed in 2013, formed the government and “of course do not want to keep your name.” disgraced.”

“It is also definitely not in the interests of the PS. [chumbar a proposta]because, given the seriousness of what is on the table, they will certainly understand that the clarification required is not happening through the usual commission and is not in the interests of other parties who are engaged in the fight against corruption, and here is a specific tool in the service of this clarification,” said He.

However, if the PCP proposal is not approved, Paulo Raimundo promised that the party “will not give up on this issue” and “will do everything in its power to put pressure on anyone who does not allow this initiative to move forward, and to clarify events as should.” as much as possible”.

When asked what he could do if the commission failed, the communist leader replied: “We have a political battle to fight, and that is no small feat.”

“We know that the commission of inquiry allowed, taking into account the peculiarities and requirements that it has from a legal point of view, to get to the bottom of the matter. If we do not have such an opportunity, we must find other tools, all those that are at our disposal: in political, institutional struggle and in exposure,” he said.

When asked whether PCP had any contact with other parties to ensure the viability of the proposal, Paulo Raimundo responded in the negative, reiterating that, given the importance of the investigation, he did not want to believe that it would not be possible.
