Lying on the street, hit twice in the head, surrounded by blood. This is how 63-year-old António Santana, the owner of an apartment destroyed yesterday after a fire, was found in Vila Real de Santo António. The Judicial Police (JP) is investigating the circumstances of the death and the cause of the fire in the house, which left five residents of the house homeless.
The fire alarm was sounded at 1:24 am. “I saw smoke in the building, and when I came here, I found you already lying on the road with two blows to the forehead,” he recalled CM Telmo Santos, who alerted the authorities. Firefighters from Vila Real de Santo António extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to other apartments in the building. Civil protection was present on site and provided support to the displaced residents, who were welcomed by family members.
