TAP is in talks to cancel the “lease,” the airline told Lusa on Sunday, refusing to disclose details of possible compensation.
Responding to questions from Lusa, an official TAP source acknowledges that “contract termination negotiations are underway between TAP and the automotive solution provider.”
“TAR does not comment on ongoing negotiations or hypothetical compensation,” the same source emphasizes.
Negotiations are underway due to the fact that “as it was announced, the entire lease agreement concerning 79 cars, 50 of which were intended for TAP SA, has been terminated.”
He adds that TAP has signed a “lease” agreement, a vehicle rental agreement often used by companies, which means the rental of vehicles with related services for a certain period of time and upon payment of rent. renew the fleet, which will include 50 vehicles for the aviation company TAP SA.
According to a TAP source, this contract will also benefit other companies in the group, “not just Portugália”, who “will take advantage of this larger order”. […] and will also upgrade its vehicle fleet.”
“The total number of cars in the ‘lease’, including other companies in the TAP group, will be 79. None of the 50 cars ordered for TAP SA have been delivered,” he adds.
On the other hand, it guarantees that “the only vehicle will be returned to the supplier” from a set of 29 that was delivered to a TAP-related company.
On Thursday, TAP’s executive committee announced that it would aim to keep the current fleet for a maximum period of one year as it understands the “general mood of the Portuguese people” after the controversy over luxury cars.
The controversy over TAP’s fleet began after TVI/CNN Portugal reported that the carrier ordered a new fleet of BMWs to replace the Peugeot for administration and managers.
Subsequently, TAP came to clarify that the deal would save 630 thousand euros per year, but in the end the company did not resist disputes and decided to revise the terms of the contract.
