This Saturday, Benfica aims to keep some pressure on Sporting for the national title when they host Sporting Braga, who are fighting for third place in the I Football League, in the 31st round.
The triumph at the Estadio da Luz in the 6pm match leaves the Reds in second place, four points behind leaders Sporting, who face a difficult trip to Porto on Sunday. Already mathematically out of contention for the title.
A win for Benfica and a possible mistake for Sporting at the Dragao will see the I League go up in flames in the final three rounds, although the Lions appear to have a clear path to winning the domestic title.
For their part, Sporting Brahe, level on points with Porto, need a good result in Luz to remain in the fight for third place and also prevent the possible approach of Vitoria de Guimarães, who are in fifth place with five points.
Also this Saturday at 20:30, Guimarães, now winless in two games in a row, will host Boavista, who travel to Minho in 13th place, just two points above the danger zone.
On Friday, Gil Vicente and Arouca played out a 2-2 draw early in the round, in a game highlighted by Gil’s stoppage-time goals.
