Andre Villas-Boas was elected as the new president of FC Porto on Saturday night, unseating Pinto da Costa, who was defeated in every poll. He spoke at the campaign headquarters, where he said that he had received “a lot of strength, energy and confidence.”
“I launched this campaign for our club and partners, they showed me that Porto can be proud again,” he says.
“Today Porto is free again,” says Andre Villas-Boas, noting that this is the day when a new page begins to be written at the Porto club.
The new president declares that Porto is “a bastion of the northern region, the best club in Portugal,” and adds that it is a club that everyone needs and wants. Andre Villas-Boas also says he has a “long mission” ahead of him that requires hard work. He explains that there is “a home that needs to be neat, organized and structured.”
“We know the path we want to take, we are ready to respond to all demands,” he says, once again thanking all the “27 thousand who waited to make history.”
At the end, he said that he promised to “give my life for Porto.”
Of Pinto da Costa, he says that “this will always be his home” and thanks the former president for everything he has done.
The former coach, who won four trophies for the Blaugrana football team in the 2010/11 season, including the league and the Europa League, appeared in the election for the first time.
