Cardinal D. Américo Aguiar is shocked by the death of Sabrin al-Sakani, a “martyr child” who was born after her mother was killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip. “On our day of Freedom and Hope [25 de Abril], another child died in the Land of Jesus. His young mother died at home, like the rest of the family, after a war that never ends. (…) He was born, lived and died without knowing the love of his parents,” the Bishop of Setubal wrote on his pages on social networks. Sabreen, who D. Américo calls Esperanza, made news around the world for being rescued from her mother’s womb, but ultimately did not fight back. He was born at 30 weeks, weighing 1.4 kilograms and with severe breathing problems. She was buried next to her mother. She was going to be adopted by her maternal grandmother. “Who cries for these babies, these innocents, who every day in many parts of the world are born, live and die without knowing Love? Let’s cry for baby Nadezhda, let’s cry for the girls and boys who are born, live and die without Love. Let us not be ashamed to mourn them… and let us not lose confidence: hope never dies, it never ends,” the Portuguese cardinal wrote.
