The library of the Portuguese scientist Carlos Fiolhais (columnist for the CM magazine Domingo), numbering about 40,000 documents, will be donated by him to the municipality of Coimbra. The idea is to create the Carlos Fiolais Library (as the center of the Municipal Library) in the old pumping station of the park in Aguas de Coimbra.
The project will be discussed tomorrow at a meeting of the Chamber and provides for the availability to citizens of works of national and foreign literature, including poetry, art, comics, science and technology and essays, as well as national and foreign periodicals, audio and audiovisual materials (mainly classical music and jazz, feature films and documentaries).
The goal is that the work required to open the facility can be completed by April 1, 2025, and the facility will open by May 1. The estimated investment is 100 thousand euros (spread over 2024 and 2025), and for programming – 20 thousand euros per year.
