Canadian actor George Ross Robertson, best known for starring in six films in the Police Academy franchise, died Sunday at the age of 89 in a hospital in Toronto, Canada, his family said this Saturday.
The causes of death were not disclosed.
Over a career spanning 60 years, Robertson became famous for playing Chief of Police and later Commissioner Henry Hearst in the films of the comedy franchise.
The actor appeared as Hurst in 1984 in Hugh Wilson’s first Police Academy film and remained in the franchise until Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989).
Robertson also appeared in three films nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture: Airport (1970), Norma Ray (1979) and John F. Kennedy (1991).
George Ross Robertson was born April 20, 1933 in Brampton, Ontario.
