The government will soon publish a regulation that will make life easier for more than 100,000 farmers by simplifying the rules of the Common Agricultural Policy (PAC), Agriculture Minister José Manuel Fernandez announced this Monday.
The publication of the decree, according to the minister, will lead to the removal of barriers, the simplification of conditionality rules and the lifting of sanctions, this is the “first step” of measures that will be taken “in the next two months”, as part of changes to the CAP that will benefit “more than 100 thousand small and average farmers.”
Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Agriculture of the European Union (EU) in Luxembourg, José Manuel Fernandez also announced that a number of investments are planned as part of the Executive’s water plan.
“We can’t always fight for losses,” he said, saying investment in irrigation was being accelerated by “ensuring that any decision would benefit farmers by giving them “predictability and stability” over water storage and delivery.
Jose Manuel Fernandez, who met his European counterparts in Luxembourg, said a meeting on the drought would be held before May 10 to assess actions that need to be taken immediately.
