The annual inflation rate was 2.2% in April, down 0.1 percentage point from March, according to a quick estimate released Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Core inflation (the overall index excluding unprocessed food and energy) recorded a change of 2% in April versus 2.5% in the previous month.
In turn, the change in the energy index increased to 7.9% from 4.8% in the previous month as a result of the base effect associated with lower prices recorded in April 2023 (-3.2% monthly change). , while the unprocessed food index recorded a zero rate of change (-0.5% in March).
INE estimates the month-on-month change in the consumer price index (IPC) to be 0.5%, up from 2% in March and 0.6% in April 2023.
In turn, Portugal’s Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HIPC) recorded an annualized deviation of 2.3% (2.6% in the previous month).
The National Statistics Office puts the average change over the last twelve months at 2.6% (2.9% in the previous month).
