According to data published today by Pordata, Portugal is the European Union country with the highest proportion of employers without education or with basic education, despite the improvement recorded in recent years.
In a portrait of the Portuguese labor market for 1 May (Workers’ Day), Pordata highlights that almost half of self-employed workers as employers (44%) have no more than 9 years of experience. school education.
However, positive dynamics are observed compared to 60% recorded 10 years ago.
Pordata emphasizes that, on the other hand, in 2023, employees in Portugal were evenly distributed across educational levels: 1/3 up to 9th year, 1/3 with secondary education and 1/3 with higher education.
According to the data, the largest increase in workers by level of education over 10 years was registered among graduates (+10 percentage points) and the largest decrease among people with the 1st cycle of basic education, that is, the 4th. year (-7 percentage points).
In 2013, 1.2% of workers did not have any cycle of education, 13.3% had the first level, 13.8% the second level and 22.4% the third level, 25.7% had secondary and post-secondary education, 23 had higher education .6%.
In 2023, 0.5% had no education cycle, 6.3% had first cycle, 8.9% second cycle, 18.2% third cycle, 33% secondary and higher education and 33.1% higher education.
