The Public Ministry (MP) accused a man of trying to kill his ex-wife with a pitchfork on the street in Vagos, in the Aveiro region, last September, the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Porto Region (PGR-P) said.
On its official website, the prosecutor’s office explained that the accused attacked his ex-wife, from whom he had separated since March 2023, for disagreeing with the end of the relationship.
He stressed that despite the separation, the accused continued to stalk, harass, abuse and threaten death against his former partner, having started living opposite his place of residence.
The PGR-P said that on September 27, the defendant armed himself with a pitchfork and approached his ex-partner as she was getting out of the car, and struck her with successive blows to her body, including to the head, while insulting her.
“The defendant did not kill the victim only because the victim, in order to avoid being hit, rolled around and, faced with the persistent noise of the victim’s dog, fearing that he would be discovered by third parties, eventually stopped his attacks, leaving a fork on the ground and running away,” – explained the prosecutor.
At the time of the crime, the man had already been accused of domestic violence, so he was prohibited from staying or approaching the couple’s home and ex-wife’s place of work, as well as contacting her in any way.
The suspect, who is now in pretrial detention – a more serious measure of coercion, is accused of attempted murder, as well as domestic violence against his ex-wife.
The deputy also charged the defendant with four domestic violence offenses against the couple’s minor children.
