12-year-old boy Luis Felipe Darulis was killed by his stepfather in the Brazilian town of Monte Mor, 118 km from Sao Paulo, during a brutal correctional training attempt to make him stop loving dolls. The stepfather, 46-year-old Cirilo Abe Barreto, who also attacked his stepson with a piece of wood during a long session, tried to hide the cause of Luis Felipe’s death, but was eventually arrested.
Left at home with the boy, his stepfather, who worked as a temporary teacher in Hortolandia, a nearby town, forced Felipe to perform endless sessions of continuous sit-ups in an attempt to “cure” the teenager of his attraction to dolls. When Fellipe, exhausted after squatting and standing up many times at a rapid pace, stopped or lost consciousness, he was struck on the legs with a lath and was forced to resume the punishment.
At some point, as the Monte Mora police have already established, the boy stopped breathing and fell. So his mother, coming home, found him already lifeless, wet with sweat and urine and dirty with vomit.
She took her son to the emergency department of the Beneficente Sagrado Corazan de Jesus hospital, but the boy was brought to that department dead. Cirilo said that his stepson felt ill during training and lost consciousness, but the doctor on duty, noticing signs of beatings, called the police, and his stepfather was arrested, and his red-handed arrest was converted by the judge into preventive detention. . who was present.
At the funeral of Luis Felipe, in the municipal cemetery of Monte Mor, teachers and students of the school where he studied described him as a boy devoted to his studies, a very polite, nice teenager to everyone around him. Teachers and students confirmed that the boy had a passion for dolls and that he really enjoyed playing with them, a reason that had already made him a victim of other punishments from his stepfather, whom he was very afraid of and already confessed to his colleagues. however, he filed an official complaint precisely out of fear of being subjected to even more brutal reprisals.
The Monte Mora judicial police inspector leading the investigation, Fernando Bueno, believes that the brutal murder of Luis Felipe had homophobic motives. After being charged in Monte More, Cirilo was sent to the state prison of Zumare, another city in the Campinas metropolitan area, where he will await the outcome of the investigation and trial.
