This Saturday, a US military fighter jet shot down a Chinese reconnaissance balloon off the coast of South Carolina as part of a mission authorized by US President Joe Biden, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told Reuters.
“A balloon used by (China) to monitor strategic installations in the United States was shot down while flying over US territorial waters,” Austin said in a statement released Saturday.
The United States of America and Canada spotted a Chinese reconnaissance balloon on Thursday flying over the airspace of the two countries. “Some US politicians and media are using this incident as an excuse to attack and slander China,” the Chinese government said.
