The Secretary General of the Social Democratic Party, Pedro Nuno Santos, called the party’s refusal to participate in the television model of debates between all candidates in the European elections undemocratic.
“This is not anti-democratic. The PS should campaign on the streets. We are ready to discuss with everyone,” he emphasized in statements made to journalists after leaving a meeting of the PS National Political Commission.
Given the shorter campaign period compared to the March legislative elections, “eight debates is a lot,” he said. “The election campaign is not only carried out on television,” emphasized Pedro Nuno Santos.
Referring to the head of the AD list, Sebastian Bugalia, he said: “A 30-minute debate with two hours of commentary provides an excuse for candidates to run for another election.”
In Portugal, elections to the European Parliament will be held on June 9.
