Several firefighters were injured while extinguishing the fire at the Ponta Delgada hospital

A fire broke out in X.On Saturday morning, at the Divino Espirito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada in the Azores, patients were forced to be taken out and taken to the Hospital da Cuf da Lagoa, according to the report CM from the official source of the Voluntary Fire Department of Ponta Delgada.

According to a hospital source, “the discharge of hospitalized patients who were due to leave the hospital during the day has been rescheduled” and the emergency department, maternity ward and operating theater were closed as a precaution.

At a press conference in Angra do Heroísmo, on the island of Terceira, the regional secretary explained that the fire had jeopardized the “electrical supply of the hospital” and that “smoke had spread into several rooms” of the Divino Espirito Santo hospital, on the island of São Miguel.

The head of the health department also said that patients who were “admitted to the neonatal and adult intensive care unit” have already been transferred and “intermediate and palliative care patients have already been flagged for a more differentiated response.”

A fire broke out at the Divino Espirito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada.

The alarm came at 9:20. Ponta Delgada volunteer firefighters were called to the scene.

For safety reasons, the hospital is asking the public to avoid visiting medical facilities “except in an emergency/emergency situation” and for visitors visiting patients to “stay away” from the hospital “until further information is received.”
