A prisoner in Coimbra prison receives cocaine from CTT

A Coimbra prison inmate is accused of receiving cocaine in postal parcels sent through CTT. The drug was hidden in items of clothing and then sold to other prisoners. To avoid detection, the 37-year-old defendant instructed his 34-year-old partner to get a friend to send the orders and address them to another prisoner.

The indictment states that the two defendants, hired by the pair, were paid to send and receive orders for cocaine. The goods were then handed over for sale in prison to the main defendant, who is serving seven years and two months in prison for theft.

An investigation carried out by the Center’s judicial police identified four orders containing cocaine sent in 2021 by the 65-year-old accused. In one case, two women were observed outside a CTT store in Viseu. The main suspect’s companion remained outside while the elderly woman gave orders to another prisoner. During an autopsy at the prison, cocaine was found hidden in the lining of the vest.
