The coast brings together most of the tourist homes

The coastal municipalities, with Bermeo (Bizkaia) and Zarautz (Gipuzkoa) in the lead, are the places with the greatest accumulation of tourist homes outside the capitals.

Apart from the capitals, the coastal municipalities They are the ones with the most tourist homes. Of the lists of the 25 with the most registered VT, removing the four capitals, 13 are on the coast. Bermeo, Zarautz, Hondarribia and Getxowith 13.2% of the total VTs, have more than 100. The two municipalities in Gipuzkoa have a tourist tradition, but not the ones in Bizkaia.

Among the inland municipalities, the Tudela and Estella in Navarra, with its tourist attraction, and Barakaldo and Irun, with a claim to international fairs. They are municipalities of a certain size, but not two other municipalities that also make it onto the list: Baztan and Busturia.

In all territories, The capital absorbs the largest number of tourist homes: around 40%, while in San Sebastián it rises to 63%. This factor is imposed on the distribution of VT, as well as the “coast factor”.

When analyzing the impact of VT in these municipalities, we can look at other towns with a similar number of inhabitants in Spain. As for the medium-sized municipalities, Bermeo, Hondarribia and Lekeitio, with a rate of between 44 and 51 beds per 1,000 inhabitants, they have much lower ratios than other coastal municipalities, such as Llanes (429 beds/1,000 inhabitants), in Asturias, or Laredo (103 beds/1000 inhabitants), in Cantabria.

In our territory, Mundaka It stands out for its ratio (192 beds/1000 inhabitants), despite its small size, but it is still lower than that of Noja (396), despite having a similar population.

In case of Valcarlos, in Navarra, is very special. With only 304 inhabitants, it has 24 tourist homes, giving a rate of 348 places per 1,000 inhabitants.
