A young man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the neck has been sentenced to eight years and six months in prison in Lagoa.

A Portimao court has sentenced a young man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend in Lagoa to eight years and six months in prison.

The panel of judges found that it had not been proven that there were direct consequences between the death of Joana Nacimeno and the attack by Thiago Souto. However, they considered that the defendant “intended to take the life” of the victim.

The defendant was also ordered to pay compensation in the amount of 5 thousand euros for moral damage caused to the family and 90.91 euros to the Portimão hospital, where the young woman was treated immediately after the crime.

According to the prosecution, the victim suffered two neck wounds and was hospitalized. She was discharged that same day, but on the 22nd she was readmitted to the Portimão Hospital with a serious infection as a result of her injuries. She was taken by helicopter to the intensive care unit of Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, where she died on the night of the 23rd as a result of “post-traumatic abscess complicated by sepsis,” the autopsy report said.
