Luis Neto, one of the leaders of the Sporting dressing room, wrote an emotional text on his social networks on Tuesday in which he made several reservations about the formula that guarantees the title. “May 26, 2023. This whole adventure began in Wiesel, the last game of the championship, fourth place. In the locker room before the game we told each other that this moment would never happen again. We promised ourselves that we would do so. never be in this position again. The challenge was accepted.” Thus begins the performance of the experienced 35-year-old player, who is also one of the team captains.
In 2021, when Sporting won the previous championship, Neto touched the fans with a publication hinting at the title, then saying that after such great joy, his career could now end. Amorim, however, always tried to keep him on the team, recognizing the important role he plays in motivating his colleagues.
In the message, Neto talks about how the coach also motivated the players. “It demanded fire in our eyes, it demanded a flame, a thirst for victory. This made us feel uncomfortable. How far were we willing to go to become champions? (…) It was all or nothing. Either we win or we all go home. Face to face we rolled the dice and then set out with the dream and belief of achieving the Marquis.”
Ultimately, almost the entire Sporting team and many former players responded to the message.
