Low cost flights from Portugal to Cape Verde from 29 October

The first low-cost flight to Cape Verde from Portugal will take place on October 29, connecting Lisbon with the island of Sal, followed by Porto/Sal the next day, EasyJet said on Wednesday.

The service between Portugal and Cape Verde will be EasyJet’s first route in West Africa and its first outside the Sahara, said the company’s Portugal CEO José Lopes.

50,000 tickets for the winter season will go on sale from Thursday, with 50,000 tickets for the summer season expected to go on sale later.

EasyJet will operate four weekly flights between Lisbon and Sal: on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. According to the CEO of EasyJet Portugal, two weekly flights will depart from Porto: on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The cost of each flight will start from 83.99 euros, and José López assured that in terms of accommodation, “the available supply exceeds the required number of available seats,” which amount to 100 thousand per year.

Confident that the message will be a “success”, José Lopez has not yet said whether or which other Cape Verdean islands could be targeted by the new routes.

“Once these routes are combined, we will be able to look at other destinations in Cape Verde,” he told reporters.

Attending the meeting on behalf of the Government of Cape Verde, the Cape Verdean Ambassador to Lisbon, Eurico Monteiro, stressed that it was “lucky” that the first low-cost flights to Cape Verde were provided by “one of the largest and most prestigious companies.”

“Having this alternative is good for Cape Verde, for tourism in Cape Verde, for the Cape Verdean diaspora and for everyone who wants to experience Cape Verde,” the diplomat said.

In a message contained in a note sent by the company to the media about the unveiling ceremony for these new routes, Cape Verde’s Minister of Tourism and Transport, Carlos Santos, said that “the addition of Cape Verde to EasyJet’s route network represents a new chapter.” in the country’s connection with the world and, inevitably, the beginning of a new stage of tourism.”

“This will allow us to create new transport solutions for our expatriates, thereby facilitating their connection with their homeland and therefore increasing their investment in the country,” he said, adding: “This will allow businessmen, cultural figures, researchers and students to also have access towards more balanced and competitive tariffs.”
