The National Archives of Torre do Tombo (ANTT) will digitize the archive of Estado Novo dictatorship leader António de Oliveira Salazar (1889-1970) and make it available to the public online, its director Silvestre told News Agency Lusa Lacerda.
The director of ANTT, speaking with Lusa, said that as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), funded by the European Union and due to be completed by 2026, Torre do Tombo’s priority is “the digitization of the Salazar archive and its accessibility.” for the general public, the catalog is partly posted on the Internet, as well as [a inventariação] currently existing on paper, written by Madalena García [antiga subdiretora do ANTT]published by Editorial Estampa in 1992.”
The person in charge said the plan is to digitize 1.2 million images from the so-called Salazar Archive, consisting of 1,177 boxes, two folders and a cabinet of personal effects.
