Madeira’s health services have received another user from the Azores, bringing the number of patients transferred to the region following the fire at the Ponta Delgada hospital last weekend to 59, as announced this Saturday.
The patient arrived in the region early Saturday morning “in neurocritical condition and with chronic kidney disease” and was admitted to the Hospital Dr. Nelio Mendonça (HNM) in Funchal, according to a statement published by the Regional Health Directorate of Madeira. Service (SESARAM).
In the same note, Madeira health authorities also report that 55 patients with chronic kidney disease stationed at HNM and Garrison Regiment No. 3, transferred from the Azores on May 6, “continue to receive treatment as well as all necessary medications.” which is provided by SESARAM.”
According to the agency, which is dependent on the regional government, medical teams in the two regions are “in constant coordination to better provide care” to transferred patients.
On May 6, a fire that broke out at the Divino Espirito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada forced the transfer of all patients admitted to this department.
Of the 59 patients brought to Madeira, 27 were admitted to the Hospital of Dr. Neliu Mendonça and 32 to the 3rd Garrison Regiment in Funchal.
