Paulinho’s goal in the 81st minute brought champion Sporting a 1-0 victory over Estoril Praia in the match of the 33rd and penultimate round of the Portuguese Football League.
Having won their 20th league title in the previous round, the Lions achieved their 28th league victory thanks to a goal from the Portuguese, who started the game on the bench and came on in the second round.
Sporting, which achieved a second win in a row and a 20th game without defeat, has 87 points – one more than the Leonine maximum achieved in second place in the 2015/16 season under the command of Jorge Jesus – which is already unattainable for its predecessor. Benfica, who have 76 points and will host Arouca on Sunday, while Estoril Praia, who entered the field with guaranteed consistency, remain in 13th place with 33 points.
