Young Portuguese are second most interested in voting in the European EU elections

According to The Eurobarometer on Youth and Democracy was launched this Monday by the European Commission.

More than six in 10 (64%) young Europeans intend to vote, with only Romania (78%) ahead of Portugal (77%).

The EU countries with the least interest among young people in voting in European elections are Malta (47%), Latvia (46%) and Luxembourg (41%).

In Portugal, 7% of young people surveyed do not know whether they have the right to vote, and 5% have the right but do not intend to vote.

Across all member states, the main reasons for not participating in European elections are lack of interest in politics (19%), lack of belief in the importance of voting (19%) and lack of trust in the political system (17%).

Elections to the European Parliament will be held on June 9 in Portugal.
