On Monday, Transtejo workers began a three-hour strike at the beginning of the morning and afternoon shifts for five days, demanding higher wages and complaining about rising costs of living.
Following a plenary session in late September, Carlos Costa of the Federation of Trade Unions for Transport and Telecommunications (Fectrans) told Lusa that the workers had decided to stage another partial strike from 10 to 14 October.
“We expect the resumption of negotiations with the government and with the administration. The intransigence of the government and the board of directors remains at the level of 0.9% (the percentage increase is accepted) and that’s it. About 8%, and therefore the offer of 0.9% is irrelevant to the current purchasing power,” he then said.
In turn, the company in response to Lusa confirmed that the strike will last three hours per shift and all overtime work from 00:00 Monday to 24:00 October 14, noting that negotiations with unions are ongoing. .
Transtejo is responsible for connecting Seixal, Montijo, Cacilhas and Trafaria/Porto Brandão in the Setúbal area with Lisbon.
The company shares a board of directors with Soflusa, which is responsible for the transition between Barreiro in the Setubal area and Terreiro do Paso in Lisbon.
Workers at both companies have staged several struggles in recent months demanding higher wages and hiring workers.
