The President of the Institute of Social Security (ISS), Ana Vázquez, submitted her resignation this Friday to the Secretary of Labor, as she understands that the current government has shown a “lack of trust” following the issue of the IRS withholding of pensions.
In a letter sent to Minister Maria do Rosario Ramalho and to which Lusa had access, the president of the Social Security Institute states that she decided to resign following “the public position taken by the government regarding the IRS income tax adjustments on pensions paid to ISS in April and May.”
“The display of surprise and ‘surprise’ at this decision and the consequent omission of this issue at the meeting on April 22 between the ISS board, Your Excellency and the Minister of Social Security, objectively represent a manifestation of the government’s lack of confidence in the president of the ISS board of directors,” the letter says.
