Thousands of public service workers gathered this Friday in front of the Ministry of Finance in Lisbon, demanding higher wages and criticizing the government for its lack of response.
The demonstration began at 14:20 in Praça da Figueira Square and was attended by several hundred workers.
The protest, called by the General Front of Civil Servants’ Unions, which marched to the Ministry of Finance, located near Terreiro do Paço, “assembled”, later gathering thousands of workers armed with flags and drums.
Along the way, militant phrases like “Limiting wages only in the interests of capital” and “Without an attractive career, there won’t even be ants left here” were shouted out.
In addition to the demonstration, there will be a strike covering the central administration this Friday from 07:00 to 24:00.
The common front calls for temporary wage increases for all workers, an increase in the minimum wage to 1,000 this year, career improvements, strengthening public services, and the start of negotiations on measures that make up the overall demand proposal, which has also been endorsed by the National Federation of Public Workers Unions. social functions.
