The University of Aveiro explains that the process of creating a medicine course is not completed

The University of Aveiro (UA) clarified this Friday that the process of creating an integrated master’s degree in medicine has not been completed and there is no final decision from the Board of Directors of the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).

In a note sent by Agência Lusa, the UA clarifies that it has received from A3ES for analysis and approval the preliminary report of the Committee of External Evaluation (CAE) of the medical course.

“UA has already commented on the report, agreeing with its contents. Now the final decision rests with the A3ES board of directors,” the same message says.

This clarification comes after the UA announced this Friday that the Aveiro Academy’s proposal for an integrated Master of Medicine degree has been approved, according to information provided by the A3ES board of directors.

According to the same note, the offer includes teaching at the UA and supervising clinical studies at three local health units (ULS), namely ULS Região de Aveiro, ULS Entre-Douro-e-Vouga and ULS Gaia/Espinho, within the scope of the Clinical Academic Egas Moniz Health Alliance Center.

According to the Committee on External Evaluation (CAE) report cited by UA, “the mission, vision and objectives of the integrated Master of Medicine degree are clearly defined and based on a modern program structured around a student-centered spiral curriculum.” “.

The CAE further believes that the program “meets the intended learning outcomes and is suitable for acquiring the skills needed by the clinician,” noting that “the list of faculty (already involved) in the clinical training orientation phases is impressive.”

In terms of research, CAE believes that “the program is supported by evidence from the numerous active research projects and activities (national and international) ongoing in the medical and clinical sciences at the UA and the Clinical Academic Center.”

Finally, CAE also believes that “the physical infrastructure and equipment available at UA are sufficient to support the training modules.”
