A middle-aged man who was found dead on June 30 last year in his home in Horta, in the Azores, is still awaiting his funeral, more than seven months after his death.
This case was confirmed to Luce by the public relations department of the Hospital da Horta, where the corpse had been kept in a cold room since death, since no family member had taken the body until now.
In addition, according to the same source, the body in question was autopsied on July 7, 2022 by order of the State Ministry to try to determine the cause of death, but the hospital has not received permission to release the body until today. and start the funeral.
The body of this man, who was not a native of Faial and had no relatives on the island, was repeatedly moved, due to the malfunction of the refrigeration chambers of the Hospital, was stored in a refrigerated container, outside this medical facility most of the time indicated the source.
However, this is not the first time that a corpse has been waiting for several months for burial on the island of Faial.
A citizen of foreign citizenship, who also died last June in a car accident, was also waiting for the body to be handed over by the Ministry of Health so that the family could hold a funeral.
