The head of state will arrive in the Italian capital this Wednesday, where in the late afternoon he will take part in the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, organized jointly by the Portuguese Embassy in Italy and the department in Rome. culture together with the Camões Institute and the Ministry of Culture under the title “L’alba che aspettava” (“The dawn that I expected”, excerpt from a poem by Sofia de Mello Breiner Andresen).
In the evening, Marcelo, still in Rome, will have a private dinner with his Italian colleague Sergio Mattarella, after which he will travel to Florence, where on Thursday he will attend for the second time the State of the Union conference promoted by the European University Institute of Florence, after he was already one of the featured guest speakers at the 2018 event.
This time, the President of the Republic will take part in a “high-level conversation” with the President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou, dedicated to the theme “A New Era: Shaping the Future through European Values.”
The 14th State of the Union conference, which runs until Friday in Florence, will take place this year just over two weeks before the European elections, which will take place in the 27 member states from June 6 to 9.
Before returning to Lisbon, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will also meet with the Portuguese academic community at the Institute of European Universities on Thursday afternoon.
